Shamoya underwent an AVSD (Atrioventricular Septal Defect) repair which was led by Chain of Hope Trustee and Volunteer Surgeon Professor Victor Tsang and local cardiac surgeon Dr Sherard Little on our mission to Jamaica in June 2026.
Shamoya’s mother noticed that she was struggling with shortness of breath at birth and at four months old was diagnosed with an AVSD.
An AVSD is where there is an abnormal opening in the center of the heart and problems with the valves that separate the heart’s chambers.
Shamoya has dreams of becoming a police officer when she grows up, and thanks to the care and expertise of our medical volunteers her dream can one day become reality.
Thanks to your incredible support, Shamoya has been given the chance to enjoy a healthy future alongside her family.
