Five-year-old Maya underwent a procedure to mend a moderate PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus) on our missipon to Ethiopia in April 2026.
A PDA is a congenital heart defect where a fetal blood vessel fails to close after birth. This makes the heart and lungs work harder than normal.
Maya's procedure was succesful thanks to Chain of Hope Medical Volunteer Professor Sir Shakeel Qureshi and his incredible team of Medical Volunteers. Soon after Maya was able to leave the Ethiopia Cardiac Centre and get back to her family.
