Lea is a three-month-old girl from Gaza who underwent a TAPVD (Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Drainage) procedure on our mission to Jordan in February 2026, which was dedicated to mending the hearts of children from Gaza.
A TAPVD is a congenital heart defect where the pulmonary veins connect to the wrong side of the heart. This means oxygen-rich blood from the lungs does not connect to the left atrium as it should. Instead, it drains into veins on the right side of the heart, causing oxygenated and deoxygenated blood to mix and leading to low oxygen levels. Lea’s procedure was the first TAPVD procedure conducted at Jordan University Hospital.
Thankfully, Lea's procedure was successful thanks to Professor Victor Tsang and our brilliant team of Medical Volunteers.
