Chain of Hope is looking for a Legal Trustee to join our Board

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing Chain of Hope aims and objectives in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

Chain of Hope is an international medical charity which aims to treat children with heart disease in countries where the facilities do not exist. Our vision is one where every child can get access to the cardiac care that they need.

Role Description:

The Board is looking for a new Trustee who is aligned to the values and ethos of the charity and would enjoy the opportunity to contribute their expertise to provide robust and dynamic governance to ensure we achieve our ambitions and remain financially solvent. We would like to enhance our Trustee Board with legal expertise from either a barrister or a solicitor.

In the role of Trustee, you will help ensure compliance and accountability for finances, legal and governmental obligations. Previous experience in a Trustee role is not essential but knowledge of the charity sector is desirable.

Taking on the role of a Trustee is a significant undertaking. An appropriate time commitment will be required for the preparatory work required in between meetings as well as attendance at the meetings. As a small charity, the CEO and senior management would benefit from support in between meetings with assistance on any contracts the charity has to sign or other legal input.

We would expect the Legal Trustee to also sit on the Risk committee together with other Trustees and the Treasurer.

Board of Trustee meetings are quarterly, as are Risk Committees. Providing a sounding board to the CEO and senior management meetings would be desirable.

The Charity does have official Charity Lawyers in Russell Cooke and recognises that one person will not be able to advise in all aspects of Charity Law.

If you are interested in applying for this role, you are welcome to contact Emma Scanlan at emma@chainofhope.org for more information or an informal discussion.
