Chain of Hope has a pool of wonderful volunteers who help us to support children and their families whilst they undergo treatment in the UK.

If you are looking to give your time to make a real difference in the lives of the children and families we support, then this could be the role for you! Our volunteers are joined by a common desire to support children from around the world who are in need of a life-saving operation.

Chain of Hope welcomes volunteers from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds. If you would like to get involved, there are a number of ways that you can help. See below for details of the different volunteering opportunities available:

Host Families

Chain of Hope is supported by Host Families who care for children when they come to the UK. They provide a warm, homely environment for children and their parent or guardian during their temporary stay (usually between two to four weeks), whilst the child is recovering from surgery.

Currently most children are treated in London, so prospective families need to be within easy reach of the city. If you are flexible, kind-hearted and enjoy learning about other countries and cultures, we would love to hear from you!

Host Family applicants will undergo thorough checks, including Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, safeguarding and references and will complete an assessment which will be presented to our Host Family Panel.

Child Support Volunteers

Our Child Support Volunteers help out in various ways; from visiting children in hospital, accompanying them to hospital appointments, showing families around the local area,to providing respite care for Host Families.

Interpreters

Some of our visiting families speak little or no English. Ensuring they understand the complexities of their medical treatment is very important and that is where our volunteer interpreters come in. We are particularly looking for volunteers who speak any African or Middle Eastern languages.

Volunteer drivers

We are looking for volunteer drivers with a friendly and welcoming manner, who can help families with getting to and from the airport and hospital appointments. Volunteers will need to have their own fully insured car and have a clean driving license.

All volunteer applicants must be aged 18 or over and we will discuss with you what role might best fit your experience and availability at an interview. To ensure all children and their families are safeguarded during their stay, all roles are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, safeguarding training and references.
