A Chain of Hope volunteer medical team returned from the Fundação Públicas Estadual Hospital in Belèm, Northern Brazil in June this year after a 5 day surgical and interventional cardiology mission led by Mr B Sethia and Dr John Wright.
The team, including medical and nursing staff from the Royal Brompton Hospital, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Hospital Pediatrico de Coimbra (Portugal) and Harley Street Clinic, completed 7 surgical and 3 interventional catheter procedures while spending a majority of the time giving lectures and holding intensive training programmes. The mission was a great success and the structure of future collaboration with the Fundação Públicas Estadual Hospital is now being considered. The hospital is keen to have support for its massive population. The state of Para, where the hospital is based, has over 7 million inhabitants.
A heartfelt thank you goes out the medical staff and nursing staff who so kindly donated their time and skills to this mission as well as all of the fantastic local staff at the Fundação Públicas Estadual Hospital in Belèm.
