Chain of Hope Aswan April 09 with Variety Children's Lifeline

A team of 25 healthcare professionals led by Sir Magdi Yacoub, including intensive care nurses, intensive care doctors, Biomedical engineers, technicians, cardiologists and surgeons travelled to Aswan, Egypt at the beginning of April to conduct the first ever open heart surgery in Aswan.

Earlier in 2008 Chain of Hope had sponsored over £500,000 worth of state of the art equipment to create two dedicated cardiac operating theatres and provide twelve intensive care beds.

Although not officially opened yet, April was the first Chain of Hope mission to this still developing clinic and the mission  successfully treated 16 Egyptian patients who had travelled from all over the country to receive treatment from the Chain of Hope specialist medical team.
