This was the first Chain of Hope mission to the Mulago Heart Institute in Uganda. Chain of Hope we very impressed by the progress which has been made there and we look forward to conducting many more training missions to the centre!
The Chain of Hope volunteer surgical team conducted a mission at the Aswan Heart Centre in January. This was a fantastic mission treating an amazing 37 patients, 23 surgical and 14 interventional catheters.
This was a very successful mission treating 24 children. We also held a follow up day in which we asked previous patients of Chain of Hope to come back for a check up, it was a great day which ended with a visit from Shaggy who came to meet all the patients.
The Chain of Hope medical team recently returned from Aswan, Egypt where 23 patients were treated.
In May 2010 a Chain of Hope surgical team consisting of volunteers from The Royal Brompton Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Aarhus Hospital in Denmark as well as many more. This was a very successful mission providing surgical operations for 21 patients.
In April 2010 Chain of Hope conducted a joint mission to the Aswan Heart Centre with another surgical team from Canada. This invovled two weeks of operating which resulted in 30 patients receiving surgery.
In January 2010 Chain of Hope conducted a catheter mission to the Heart Centre Ethiopia. This was performed by a small team led by the Director of Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories at Evelina Children's Hospital in London, Dr Shakeel Qureshi.
This mission saw the joining of many new volunteers from Papworth hospital to Chain of Hope, including world renowned cardiac surgeon Mr Francis Wells. This was the fourth Chain of Hope mision conducted to the Cardiac Centre which was opened in January 2009 and treated 13 children for life threatening heart disease over five operating days.
In January 2010 Chain of Hope conducted its fourth mission to the Aswan Heart Centre where 20 patients were treated.
